A 2.5 hour drive, nestled behind its fortifications, on a peninsula facing the Atlantic, Essaouira likes to surprise the traveler. You have to soak up the atmosphere of its port and stroll through its souks to feel its Moroccan soul. Frequented by hippie communities since the 1960s and then by the trendy Baba Cool jet-set, Essaouira indeed exerts a particular fascination.
